Community Learning Calendar

What is the Community Learning Calendar?

Starting in 2017-18, Inverurie Academy will be working with Primary Schools in the local area and also community partners to provide a series of learning experiences for our staff, parents, students and the wider community.  These experiences will be brought together as a Community Learning Calendar.  Some experiences are open to all, some to staff from local primary and secondary schools, and some to students.  However, it is important that we all recognise the importance of lifelong learning.

Why are we doing this?

Firstly, we believe that learning is for life.

In order to be an ambitious school, we must commit to lifelong learning.

We involve others as we are an inclusive school.

We value integrity and respect and so involving all parts of the community is important to us.

Secondly, we want to be known as a school that values people.  Part of valuing people is to ensure that we all have a chance to develop to reach our full potential.  Continued learning is a part of this.

Finally, Education Scotland recognises the importance of family learning, stating that:-

Family learning encourages family members to learn together, with a focus on intergenerational learning. Family learning activities can also be specifically designed to enable parents to learn how to support their children’s learning.

‘Family learning is a powerful method of engagement and learning which can foster positive attitudes towards life-long learning, promote socio-economic resilience and challenge educational disadvantage.’
(Family Learning Network, 2016).
